Picked this one up a few weeks ago - Delta Elite Gold Cup.

I dig the 10mm and the 1911 platform, but the old school Colts need some upgrades to make me happy. I hate the grip safety, and I prefer Bo-Mar style sights. The hammer's gotta go, as well. So, do I keep it and tweak what needs tweaking, or do I trip it/trade it for another 1911 in 10mm?

Isn't there some drama with the fire control group on the Gold Cup? IE, a lot of the parts aren't same/same with standard 1911 stuff?

No idea on whether this is any real biggie if you are getting it all worked on anyways, but I could have sworn I've heard that several times.

Are you talking about Series 80 stuff, or something else? There are extra parts for the Series 80 firing pin block, both in the slide and the frame, but I'm pretty sure the trigger and grip safety are the same.

I have had a Delta Elite before, but not the Gold Cup verison. I had a bunch of work done to it - rear sight, trigger, grip safety, new barrel, yada, yada - but as far as I know, they were the same 1911 parts as anything else.

I got rid of the first Delta because it never really was 100% in the reliability dept. I monkeyed with it for a while and got tired of screwing around. I pumped several magazines through this one, though, and it runs perfectly.

If I were to scratch the 1911 10mm itch again, I'd most likely go with a Dan Wesson. That being said, I wish I still had my DE. I lost in in one of my all time bad trades.
