6.5x284 - what twist rate?

Have inherited some Redding 6.5x284 dies and couple hundred Lap brass of the same flavour, so I reckon hang it I’ll have this donor Vanguard Stainless rebarreled in same.

Going with a Hardy barrel from NZ, and have the choice of 7.5, 8 or 8.5” twist rates. No difference with respect to cost or wait time.

Any reason not to go 7.5 twist? Conversely, are there any bullets that could utilise it?

what do you have to work with,in regards to COAL?...............

I'd do a 260 or Kreedmire...and connect all dots via repeater.

Personally...I'd prefer the Kreedmire, because it's the shortest cases of the (3) and allows the greatest COAL,with the bullets that matter most.................

I'd rather lean on good bullets, gain a round in the mag and be able to chase lands, while having a repeater in my mitts..

Kreedmire,260 and 284 here...at binderless COAL max latitude.

There's simply not enough room.

If one grants 3000fps to a 147 ELD in the '284 and compares it to same moving 2700fps via Kreedmire, you're talking 230fps impact speed difference at the 1000yd line and less than 9.5" of wind drift in 10mph full value conditions.

There's 27" of wind drift difference at the 1500yd line and a "whopping" 190fps difference in impact speeds...for an extry 15grs of powder and chasing yourself outta a repeater. 'Course there isn't 300fps of difference between the chamberings either, but I'm happy to paint a "purty" peecture.(grin)

A 7-08/180 at 2600fps arrives the 1500yd line 100fps slower than the 6.5-284/147 3000fps melding and wind drift is within 6" at the same distance,in identical atmospheres. That of course,if only for conversation. Now would I point any of 'em at something, that I would not the other? Nope. Are there inherent advantages in recoil reduction, noise reduction, repeating in a repeater, low ES/SD(smaller cases arrange same),sensational brass quality, muchly increased barrel life and more FUN? Yep.

Less is soooooooo very often, that much MORE..................

Not to hijack anything, got a SA Remmy heavy Greyboe with bottom metal sitting in the reloading room all lonely like. Will grab a Rem trued SS action from Northland. Q is BR (caliber), Creed (caliber) 223 (ai, caliber)? Purely a screw around heavy. Wouldn’t even be against a shammwow of 6.5 or seven. Just rock busting with an occasional poke at distance.

Tough to beat a 223. Components are everywhere and nearly free,recoil/noise obviously modest, things wear well and with Today's bullets...they'll reliably blow minds. Slap an AM steel 5-rounder in it as a Utility default, nab a couple/few MDT poly 10's and you are there. Once you pick a bullet and locate your throat,it'll only take a coupla licks of a file to arrange that COAL. Very nice way to fly. I'd want to be 1-7" and no longer than 21".

65MOA inclination is a friendly place for a 10x MQ and will reliably toss 37 Mils of erector or better, from a 200yd zero. 75 ELD's are simply stupid and 88's even more of a good thang...all of it less than $20 per 100.

If that ain't "sparkly" enough...go 6BR and just whistle 105 Hornie HPBT's at everything,though they are $21 a box.(grin)

Much to be said, for always seeing/trace impact....................

James 7" 223 SALAMI.

FauxBoe Terrain,which I love.

AM steel 5 and some MDT's,which are standard fare in a goodly herd of 223,223AI's and 270's.

Waiting on 'Horn's for 65MOA total.

88's is purty.

Sawed about halfa foot off and it "cost" less than 10 fps.

Reminds me...I need to send another bolt to Kali,as I robbed this (bushed) one from another rifle....................

7.5" RPM version of same,in a CH less contour.

It's handy for folks who don't listen...as I can let them do shit they've never dreamt of before and then let them know they just did same with a 6x.(grin)

No tape on the objective,in order to correlate same to Naysayers......................

Ok you’ve won me on the 6/284. Thinking 260 Rem now, given the abundance of 308 brass I already have. CM brass is still very exxy here and I’ve heaps of good 308 brass I’ll likely never otherwise get through.

The Terrain is a better Utility handle...but everyone wants a HEAVY Pig to fuck around with. The Renegade handle is quite a bit heavier,so it of course doesn't move much under recoil. Have had lotsa guys gunning 1300yds++ with it and only after the fact, realize they 6x'd everything. Pretty fucking funny, actually!(grin)

I've got Double Ounce Shilens in most all of my NSS stuff(and Vudoo's),so it's easy to do as one pleases in The Rough.

75 ELD's at 2950fps do not suck,in a SALAMI with Lever'........................

It's not a "win",it's just COAL latitude...which ain't subjective. No thang to arrange a nice 260 in an AICS binderless DBM and squirt the fuck outta 147's. Brass is fucking CHEAP and I'd be happy to give 284 and 308 brass away,to start fresh and new with 100pcs of Alpha Kreedmire Virgins. They have no equal.

One needs to look at all links in the chain and focus their combined strength. The Kreedmire is simply King.

Hint...........
