6BR, Dasher, or what else?

Ok my procrastination and some good advice saved me from going off on the 6.5x284 project.

Thinking I’ll have this Stainless Vanguard fitted with something in 6mm that the kids can shoot for pigs and goats and that I can shoot all day long without getting bashed up.

My fear of the 6BR and or Dasher is getting it to feed. I have little use of a single shot for pigs and so on.

Is there a solution? And will / would a Dasher be any better for feeding or for any other reason?

Appreciate any advice.

6 creed seems like the easy way to go.

That being said, my 6br feeds from AI mags with primal rights guts like it has eyes

Not really after something with Creedmoor case capacity. I have a 243AI with a 7” bbl for such pursuits.

Thinking about something very efficient that can just let a slippery bullet do most of the heavy lifting.

Happy to be bashed over the head with a cricket bat however if I’m on the wrong track.

Dude thanks for the magazine intel. I’ll check that out.

Bob, as Dude' said. AI mags with Primal guts ! my Howa Pacnor #3 profile, 20" 3 groove 1-7" 6BR is so configured and feeds slick as snot on a door handle... Lapua brass, Moly 105 HPBT's, Vargay, 200's. avg 2796fps with single digit ES/SD, stupid accurate and a hoot to shoot it also just happens to CRUSH critters....

Ridgy, right up the alley I was thinking.

Hardy 7” twist around 20.5” bbl length was my thoughts.

Shit 2800fps is cracking along!

OK
I had to mod the back of my AI mags to seat on a Howa action. Was pretty easy though. I've got pictures somewhere...

FWIW I'm getting 2840 with the 88gr in a 22 BR, probably a little more velocity left on the table there. Oh an no trouble feeding from AI mags with primal inserts.

Pretty hard to fuck up a 6BR.

I prefer Primal Guts,because I run others too.(grin)

I'm plenty happy with 105 Hornie HPBT's and their desires to please................

AICS and Accurate Mag have worked 100%, not sure of others. I'd bet MDT 308 length would work as well.

My 5 round kit works well in an accurate mag, 10 round kit took serious work to work in an accurate mag, not sure if that was due to the mag or the guts kit

Is there one specific AICS magazine that the Primal Guts is compatible with?

You just want to use a bindered version, whether it AICS OEM or a Copy of same.

I shoot AICS and AM steel mags, less a single issue and everybody LOVES gunning them..................

May give the 6 BRX a thought if you aren’t against FF’n.... Shaen even has a reamer....

Velocities on par with the Dasher, but you keep the 30* shoulder of the BR (feeding) and can use your salami BR dies. Shaen just spun up a HH Markman for my TL3 and it’s rocking along with thrown together FF loads.

Running HRD kits in AW mags for both the BR and BRX in my AIAT and the Bighorn. Have 500 ish rounds through a couple of the MDTs without a hiccup, but I’m not a fan of the long mags. They are advertised as a 12 round... but getting 10 in is tight as fuck.

Yeah I hate long mags sticking out that far too. Five rounders all the way for me.

Thinking I’ll stick with the standard BR.

All I drive are the 5-rounders in everything...excepting some poly MDT Herd Clips in 223/223AI/270...…………...

Ordered a Hardy (NZ) 1-7” twist Stainless in a medium-sporterish profile.

Gonna walk and shoot with this one and it’ll be shot from the car a lot too, so am thinking to finish the barrel at 21”. Thoughts on performance at that length?

Also thinking Gamescout as a handle - donor action is a stainless Vanguard S1. Anyone handled this stock in such a config?

21” wouldn’t scare me.....

Have you ever had the chance to get your hands on one of Hardy’s stocks?

The GameScout is an EASY pass for me .

No I’ve not ever seen their stocks. My bloke just uses their barrels and his builds own a number of current national titles and records here.

Or neck down a 6.5x47 Loopey to 6mm and be in the same warm/fuzzy.....

I know it doesn’t have the cool name or the backing though.

Can't say why, but just holding a 6BR round in my hand makes me happy. Absolutely awesome round. Someday a Montana will end up chambered in it around here.
