Gents,

Got the Howa 223AI with 1-9” twist humming pretty nicely with Hdy 75g BTHPs.

Running low now and have the 73g ELDM inbound. Sure hope I haven’t made a blue... They’ll go ok in the 1-9”... yeah?

I run them moderate - 2950 to 3000fps in the 21” bbl.

What say ye?

They should be fine. I'd load them up with your 75 charge and see what happens. Let us know how it shakes out

Tried them out quickly this arvo...

Usual load with the 75g BTHP is 25.5g H4895 for about 2975fps.

Tried 25.7g and chronied 2910fps.
Went to 26.0g and got 2946fps.

First group shot over the tailgate of the ute went 0.96" at 101y with the 26g load. Pretty happy with that as a first pitch.

Will probably see how 26.5g goes because I'd like something around 3000fps from the 20.5" bbl as long as the accuracy holds. Anyway I'm pretty happy at this point.

Good deal.
I'd try stepping on the gas a little too.
How close are you to the lands with them?

I haven’t checked but they are only at the internal mag length of 2.325”. I suspect at least 0.080” off but I will check in the next few days.

I’ll probably go DBM at some stage so it won’t hurt to know.

Tried 26.3g of H4895 and got 2960fps. First three shots are the top right group.
26.5g went 2994fps.
Still haven't worried about checking length into the lands. For the time being I'm happy.
Hornady really got their sh!t all in one pile with the ELDM didn't they?

Not tried the 77 but the 69 Sierra shot well. Bloody expensive but.

I shoot a lot of the 55g SGK in the SuperRoo 1000 packs. Great little bullets - very accurate and cheap-as, but they can’t hang with the 75g BTHP Hornady. I think the 73 ELDM is another step up in class as far as accuracy goes it seems.
