Could you get a 1/2x28 to 5/8x24 thread adapter and run a smaller contour

Something I've seen/done in the past:

thread 1/2x28 or something even smaller for 1-2" of barrel. Bore out a larger bushing to match, in the .750 OD range, and secure that guy over the existing thin barrel via threads (that you just cut) and locker.

Now you have a barrel with a larger cylinder on the end, which can be threaded 5/8x24 or whatever, and have a proper shoulder. It can also be profiled on the lathe so that it doesn't look so ugly, and adds on the bare minimum requisite of extra weight.

The whole works is done on the same lathe setup, so concentricity is a given....

I'd just have a shoulder turned on the blank,to do what I wanted,so as to minimize parts count................

1/2-28 would not leave enough barrel wall thickness to make me comfortable even at a 6mm bore with my can.
There are 30cals running 1/2x28. Just saying.

Have a higher contour turned down except the muzzle.

A weight forward greater contoured muzzle, don't hurt balance.

Have had more than a few Sillywet contours do just that,in both Rimfire and Centerfire................
