Anything about these rifles that stands out besides being labeled "rugged as hell" by everyone. Lots of rifles are rugged but would you buy one at the close out prices and use it over your other wares? I've never owned a Hawkeye but have multiple 700's, a Montana and model 70.

Do they stand out enough in any other areas beside "rugged" to drop the coin on one?

The only negatives I could stat are they are heavy and don't have as many after market options as others.

Solid rifles.

As a guy who also owns Montanas, I can't think of anywhere I would take a Hawkeye and not regret it. In fact I would take an RAR over a Hawkeye just about anywhere.

The 243Win is the best Ruger pitch, due the blend of twist, throat and COAL latitude.

The Ruger would never get the nod, with good shit already in the larder................

I'm getting a 6.5x47L Pac nor barreled all weather Hawkeye back next week to go in a sako Hunter swirley. It'll be my Texas box blind, shooting house rifle. If I ever go to texas... I'm looking forward to it. It may not get the nod, but it'll be fun to shoot.

That will be an exceptional midweight Utility Rifle.

You'd NEVER think of setting my 18.5" 270 and it's 105's aside,to suffer it.................(grin)

They can't all be the best. You HAVE to suffer the rest to really appreciate what the best have to offer...

The $499.00 deal at CDNN had a grip on me, if the 243 is the prom queen I need to stroke the Montana till the urge passes. I've already got three 243s and trying hard not to become a hoarder.

Thanks

It's ALL about connecting dots.

Noone has ever shot a Montucky and said "that's too handy and it shoots too well...to interest me"..................(grin)
