The first generation grip mounts had problems with cracking but a little more metal in the right places solved that.

The grip mount wasn't the only thing he invented, the ramped barrel, the compensated barrel, oh... and the beaver tail grip safety just to name a few.

I'm very familiar with the legend and his accomplishments.
