I have 2 sakos - an AIII in .06 and a AV in .375 h&h. The .06 is in a classic wood stock, the .375 is in the mcmillan. Both are in super shape. I have had them sitting in my safe for some time and I have not even fired them.

I have seen several different preferences for mounting a scope (talley, leupold ringmounts, optilock, etc.). All seem to have the scope pretty high compared to remmies and others. I like my scopes low and sometimes feel like the low talley lightweights are too high.

So, do you think I should trip them for cash, or keep them? I know you guys seem to like the older sakos. I have been putting together some other remmies to use already too....

Not much to say really. I bought the pair because they were in fantastic shape. I just have not been enthused by any of the scope mounting options. I love the triggers.

I just wanted to know if I was a dumbass for possibly wanting to sell them off.

Which mounting system do you prefer??

Funny thing is I was just in a shop that had another AV in a mickey(300win) and an older L series in .06. Neither one close to as goo a shape and they wanted $650 for them (scopes too but nothing good). The .06 had a waever style rail on top. It appeared D/T'ed is that normal?? Don't remember how the winny was scoped.

What are your thoughts on these in general??

Weaver has a tapered rail to fit the integral Sako base and they're often snugged with set screws.

Love the old Sako stuff................

So, looks like leupold ringmounts. Also a sako hunter on that one.

The six bits is the fiberclass model, although the paperwork with it called it a Finnfiber. It is the sako classic mcmillan, with the original sako radial tire pad on it. It is almost 100%. Light too at just over 7 lbs. nekked. The .06 has a wood classic stock and is almost 100% as well. It is a bit heavier too at around 8lbs nekked.

I have "heard" on a forum that the bolt guide should be pinned on because it can slip forward under recoil and end up jamming it up. Anything honestly need to be done to these?

The only thing to pin back on an elder Sako are your ears, then go right ahead on 'er. I've had 5 of them in six-bits and am sweet on them in particular.

I turned the above into a 338Ultra and love it more than a lot....................

Which stock do you like for a big boomer? Sako Classic or Sako hunter?

Any other mods to make it an ultra?? You are making me think about getting the other fiberclass for a conversion...

Shame SAKO doesn't still make that quality of rifle instead of the plastic DBM shit they're currently making.Or at least go back to the fiberclass.
